9/8/2025 Forecast (9/8 - 9/15)
Fuels:
Periods of timely moisture and higher humidity continue to mitigate any fire concerns. Long term fuels are moist with high GSI observed across the state. While there are some areas of dryness, especially in the northwest and north-central, these are limited spatially. Moisture forecasted into mid-week will be isolated in nature, but resulting cloud cover and continued high humidity should limit fire spread potential. Drying is expected into the weekend, however, recovery at night should be good and limit any fire spread to the peak burning period. Crops are also beginning to seasonally cure out. As a result, crops will be the primary fuel carrier until a more widespread freeze/frost or drying event.

Forecast:
Monday, September 8th
Precipitation from southwest to central Kansas with isolated very heavy amounts. This activity will overspread clouds and higher humidity across most of the region during the day. As a result, temperatures will reside below normal with no fire weather concerns.
Tuesday, September 9th
A round of thunderstorms will develop and push into western Kansas during the afternoon hours. More sun is expected for the remainder of the state. However, lingering moisture will keep humidity above 30% for most of the region. No fire weather concerns.
Wednesday, September 10th
More isolated thunderstorm activity expected in central Kansas during the day. While there will be some sun, especially in the far east/western portions of the state, modified humidity will linger across much of the state. Temperatures will be slightly warmer than previous days.
Thursday, September 11th
Much quieter weather with widespread sunshine. This will push temperatures to slightly above normal with drier overall conditions. Afternoon humidity will fall into the 25-30% range. Winds will also increase out of the south, especially west of US-81. Gusts could reach as high as 35mph during the afternoon and then diminish to 20mph gusts into the evening hours.
Friday, September 12th
Southerly winds will persist with temperatures warming further. Afternoon gusts will again reach the mid-30mph range during the afternoon for western Kansas. With warmer conditions and more sunshine, humidity will fall into the low 20% range for most of the state, slightly higher where heavier rains occurred earlier in the week.
Saturday, September 13th
Breezy southerly winds become more southwest with continued gusts to 30mph. Isolated afternoon thunderstorms will develop in western Kansas along a cold front and slowly move east. These will provide isolated heavy rains, but increased cloud cover will help moderate temperatures/humidity where they develop. Otherwise, conditions will be persistent to previous days - above normal, near 90F with humidity down to the low-20% range.
Sunday, September 14th
Front will gradually push across the state and linger across southeast Kansas during the afternoon. This will result in showers/storms in the southeast. Otherwise, cooler air will push into most of the state with afternoon humidity in the low-30% range. Winds will be light out of the northwest.
Monday, September 15th
Temperatures begin to rebound with winds shifting back to the southeast. Dry conditions, sunny skies and benign fire weather is expected.
