6/23/25 Forecast (6/23 - 6/30)

Fuels:

Very hot and windy conditions over the last several days have rapidly dried out the landscape with ERCs now up to the 50th %tile. Still, GSI remains high across much of the state with only areas able to effectively carry fire being cool season grasses that have cured out. These will be limited to wheat fields mostly and the landscape will be broken outside of these areas. As a result, fire suppression should be relatively successful, especially given the decrease in wind compared to previous days. Additional drying will be needed to increase fire concerns more and periods of precipitation should improve the landscape some over the period.

Forecast:

Monday, June 23rd

Cold front pushes into the state from north-central Kansas into southwest Kansas. This is ushering in cooler air into northwestern portions of the state. This stalled front will be the focus for thunderstorm activity this evening. They will develop and push eastward with heavy rain and thunderstorms. Winds will be less than previous days with only a few gusts to 30mph.

Tuesday, June 24th

Cold front will shift back northward as a warm front. This will take the focus for storms mostly north of the state with warmer and drier conditions. A few straggling storms possible north of I-70. Afternoon highs will reach back into the 90s with afternoon humidity decreasing to near 30%. Winds will be light out of the south.

Wednesday, June 25th

Warm/dry conditions will persist across much of the state with some breezy southwest winds up to 35mph. Afternoon storms will develop in eastern CO late afternoon and push into western Kansas. These storms may persist overnight and make it into central Kansas.

Thursday, June 26th

Lingering storms in central Kansas are expected as a weak front slowly pushes east across the state. An increase in clouds and moisture will yield cooler temperatures than the last few days. Winds will be light and mostly storm driven.

Friday, June 27th

Temperatures will rebound as showers/storms should be mostly confined to the southeastern part of the state early in the day. Light southerly winds with afternoon humidity dropping into the mid-30% range, lowest along the CO border

Saturday, June 28th

Temperatures remain slightly above normal with light southerly winds increasing in the afternoon. A few gusts to 30mph possible in western Kansas. Afternoon humidity will again approach the 30% range mid-day. A few storms will develop in eastern CO late in the afternoon and push into northwest Kansas in the evening.

Sunday, June 29th

Another front will push into northwest Kansas in the afternoon. This will be the focus for any thunderstorm activity during the afternoon. Otherwise, very warm/dry with breezy southerly winds ahead of the front in south-central and southeast Kansas.

Monday, June 30th

Cooler with light north/northeast winds. Humidity will be moderated compared to previous days with some spotty showers/storms in the afternoon. No fire weather concerns.
